Yorkshire Water modernizes its entire Windows estate with Rimo3 and Microsoft

Headquarters: Yorkshire, UK
Endpoints: 6,500
Industry: Utilities
Yorkshire Water is a major regional water and wastewater services provider responsible for supplying clean water and essential infrastructure across Yorkshire.
Serving millions of customers, their operations depend on secure, reliable technology to support field teams, treatment facilities, and 24/7 customer service.
The Challenge
Yorkshire Water knew they needed to move to Windows 11. The problem was everything in their environment was working against them. When they ran their initial readiness assessment, 100% of their applications were flagged as legacy or incompatible, their hardware estate wasn’t Windows 11 capable, and their IT team simply didn’t have spare capacity to take on a massive modernization program.
Security and compliance risks were increasing, transformation plans were slowing down, and the organization was stuck — they couldn’t adopt Windows 11 or fully move into Intune until these blockers were removed.
The Solution
Yorkshire Water partnered with Microsoft and Rimo3 through an ECIF-funded modernization program, giving them a fully supported, fully financed path to Windows 11 and Intune. Together they built a roadmap to modernize the entire estate:
- Full application inventory, rationalization, and compatibility testing
- Legacy app repackaging and modernization for Windows 11
- Automated patching, feature updates, and compliance workflows
- A managed endpoint service delivered through Rimo3
- A complete refresh of 6,500 Microsoft Surface Pro devices
Rimo3’s automated testing and modernization removed months of manual effort, allowing Yorkshire Water to validate and prepare their entire app estate without adding any headcount.
The Result
With Microsoft and Rimo3, Yorkshire Water moved from “completely blocked” to “fully modernized” with zero additional headcount. The organization now operates a fully modern, secure, cloud-managed Windows estate, ready for future transformation without the previous constraints.
With a modern app estate and a fully refreshed hardware fleet, Yorkshire Water is now expanding its use of Windows 365 Cloud PC and continuing its automation and Intune modernization journey.
